Recognizing God’s Voice

By August 21, 2018 Blog No Comments

With all the noise in our everyday lives, it can be difficult to hear God’s voice.  As He speaks to us, it’s important that we recognize His voice. Turning to the Bible is an important first step in discernment.  Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” This means that even though something may feel right, that doesn’t mean it’s from God.  So how do we know? We ask ourselves, “Does it line up with the Bible?” If an idea, decision, direction, or emotion is from God, it will always, always, always line up with the scriptures.  Even Jesus referred to the scriptures – to the Pharisees, to Satan, and in his own teachings. If Jesus relied on God’s Word, then so should we!

It is also important to understand the difference between being suspicious if we are hearing from God and discerning His voice.  Discernment filters the truth from the lies. Suspicion filters out everything but what we want to hear. Discerning people have joy because they feed on the truth.  And we all want to live a joyous life, confident we are living in the truth. That means we should always be in God’s Word.

So I encourage you today and every day: Read your Bible.  Search the scriptures. Study them. Memorize them. Luke 21:33 says, “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”  Click here if you’d like to start a Bible Reading Plan today.

Remember, the Bible is non-negotiable. God’s voice will always line up with His word.
